McFarland XC 2021 Series

The 2015 Disney film, “McFarland, USA” was inspired by the true story of the 1987 McFarland High School cross country team, which won the first ever California State Championship. Coach Jim White (played by Kevin Costner) and the boys of McFarland overcame hardships and laid the foundation for a cross-country powerhouse legacy.

With the series “McFarland XC, 2021” HOKA and RunnerSpace provide an updated look at the McFarland High School Cross Country program, and introduce the real people who inspired the movie. Coach White, and many of his former runners remain in town and actively involved in the community and cross country program. Located in California’s farm-rich central valley, McFarland XC’s current coaches continue to follow Coach White’s lead, and promote education and community first.

Featuring: Original McFarland XC team coach Jim White; current McFarland head XC coach & 1986 state championship team member Amador Ayon; school counselor and 1986 state championship team member Danny Diaz; current McFarland girls varsity XC coach and 1987 team #1 runner Thomas Vallez; current McFarland girls basketball coach and 1987 team #2 runner Johnny Samaniego.

Also featuring current McFarland XC runners James Diaz, Jose Perezchica, Juan Angel Rivera, & Ansony Granados.
